June 3rd - 7th

In grade three this week (from the students' perspectives):

Today we were starting to end our Little Free Pantries. My group and I, we had to finish the base but we didn’t have time to do the shelving. We did the base and the roof and the sides and the door. They were more important than shelving because we could stack up the food. The light food on the top and the heavy food on the bottom. We were thinking just to put a little tape onto our plan to stick it up but we weren’t really done. We used the plan to show what it was supposed to look like.

This week, we finished up our prototypes. My group finished and we were making food to go in so we would know if it was a good size prototype so our real one won’t be too big or too small. – JM

I have something to add on to ……’s. Today, we were finishing up our Little Free Pantries. My group was working on the food that goes inside. We were figuring out what food could go inside and what was perishable (what you can put in the pantry and what you can’t). -DK

We had to do measurements. We had to have certain measurements so we know the size. One of our measurements was 57 cm. We had to copy from our plan. At first, we planned on having a slanted roof but then we picked a different slant because we noticed that a backwards slant would be better if it rained or hailed. It wouldn’t fall on the Little Free Pantry. –BR

This Monday, we did Scientists in School. We got to dissect owl pellets. Most of us got to hold stick bugs. The one at my table lost a leg. The one at my table was eating. –AR and EW

This week, we did research on animals. We were studying about their appearance. My group and I were studying the harp seal. –SS

This week, we chose our groups to do animals that we are going to research about. Once we had our groups, we assigned jobs. I got Life Cycle and Glossary. –IB

This Monday when the Scientists in School came, one class had it in the morning and the other class went to the library. For math, we went outside. We used trundles. We got to pick from a certain spot and then we estimated how many metres. Then we used the trundles to measure how much it actually was. Every click that the trundle made was one metre. –AM

This week in read to self, I was reading a book called Big Nate and The Babysitter’s Club. Big Nate has a lot of jokes in it. It’s one of the new ones. The Babysitter’s Club is a bit of a sad book but it’s also funny at the same time. –JKT

In PE, we did a flip flop. One class did kick ball outside and the other class did indoor soccer in the gym. –EM

In PE, we were playing kickball and I finally got to pitch. My two favourite things are pitching and kicking the ball. –CM

On Thursday, we did auditions for the talent show. My friend, brother, and I did sign language to “This Little Light of Mine.” Some people did piano, dancing, and singing. –WC

For the talent show, my friends and I did a story that we wrote in Fire Writing. We really want to get in the talent show because we worked really hard on it and some of us want to go in for the Kindergartens because we might get a little nervous. I really want to do the big talent show because I haven’t done it in awhile. The last time I did it, I did piano. –ES

In the talent show, I don’t’ want to do the talent show but I want to be in the backstage because I want to help people get ready for theirs. –SI
