March 11 - March 15

This week from the perspective of the students: We made connections in reading in our books. –AV We did research and researched about what things make Calgary a better place. –DT When you research, you need to read. We are sounding out words, we are figuring out what words mean in the dictionary, and building vocabulary. NC, AR, EW We are writing when we write down our ideas about what to build. – GM In research, we were looking at images and websites. One of the images, it looked like it was the buddy bench. NNS We thought of how we can be global citizens. KB We started handwriting and we were practicing the letters, c, a, i, t, e, l, j, d, h, g, and y. SS This week, we were practicing multiplication strategies in math. My favourite is drawing pictures. GB In math, we played a new game with dice and you roll a dice. It was a double one.   In grade three this week…. Students continued to work on their reading skills and recording their understanding in their reading response journal. They also practiced reading for information when researching about global citizenship. When researching, they looked for key words and points, recorded these, and explained them in their own words. The students continued to work on note taking while researching. They worked hard to make sure they only wrote down ideas they understood and putting them into their own words. Students did a great job of looking up words they were not sure of and then recording them. One example of this was the word “drought”. When a group did not know what this word meant, they looked it up in the dictionary and then recorded their understanding in their notes. Students worked on using a variety of strategies to understand multiplication. The strategies they worked on included visuals, repeated addition, skip counting, multiply...
