Highlights of our week from the perspective of our students: "This week we made self portraits. We used different materials to make our self portraits. For my hair I used brown yarn and I also used pink ribbons." SS "We wrote about our self portraits and one of the things I wrote about was I used a blue background to let my brother know that I am always thinking about him." AM "We read a book which was no words in it,  its called Flotsam and in the book there was a boy who found a flotsam in the water that was an underwater camera. that takes pictures. The boy found a special photo of people taking photos of themselves with a photo and it goes on and on and at the end of the book the boy throws it in the water and someone else finds it."ED "Ms. Manser and Mr. Newman did the chicken dance in the assembly." KB " We did partner reading... its when you go with a partner and read with them."  IB "We did a Stem Challenge...

Making sound using light Exploring the exhibits at Telus Spark Making connections while reading - Text to Self  Highlights of our week from the perspective of our students: "This week we went to Telus Spark and we went to a bunch of exhibits and in one of them was a spider and when you opened up the curtains the spider would puff air at you."  ~ AM "At Telus Spark we got to do a Cloud Cannon and it was the first time I ever done it. We had to punch the cannon so clouds come out in ring shapes and you have to try and knock down the cups. I got down one cup."  ~ DK "In writing, we wrote about our Telus Spark field trip and we put something we really liked about Telus Spark."  ~ LC "In PE, we did stations one of the stations was a bounce pass and then there was chest pass and also shooting and also a dribble station."  ~ JM "In Music, we learned a new dance and it was a folk dance and it was really fun."  ~...

October 1 - October 5

  This week in Room 10 and 11 Students continued working on reading to themselves as well as with partners. As a class, students read the story Word Collector by Peter H. Reynolds. This story is about a boy who loves interesting words and collects them. In the end, he loses all of his words but is happy that others can now share in his joy when they find these exciting words. After the story, students became word collectors and looked for words they thought were interesting and recorded them in their reading response journals. These are words that students will be able to use in their own writing. Ask your child to tell you at least one interesting word he/she collected while reading this week. Students continued to work on adding descriptive vocabulary in their writing. They were given a picture of a shared experience (the playground or an amusement park).
