We hope that everyone had a great Spring Break! Welcome back!
Students were excited to be back and had a wonderful week of learning.
In grade three this
week…
Students continued to use their reading and writing skills
to research the Little Free Pantry and Buddy Bench. They searched through
online articles and images in order to find the answers to key
questions, such as “How would it help?” and “Who would it help?”
After completing their research, students chose which object
they think would have the greatest impact and justified why. Then, the students
worked on their discussion skills by discussing these ideas with their peers.
Students did an amazing job listening to each other, clarifying one another’s
ideas, questioning their peers, and respectfully sharing their own opinions.
Students were also great at entering the discussion with open minds and some
students even changed their minds after listening to the ideas of their
classmates. Ask your child which object they think would make the greatest impact and to justify why.
Following these great discussions, the grade threes learned
about the voting process. They then voted for their choice by marking a ballot
and then put it in the ballot box. Mr. Newman, a neutral party, counted the
ballots and it was a close race! The Little Free Pantry won the highest number
of votes.
In the next few weeks, students will be working towards designing and building a Little Free Pantry! This exciting task will
incorporate reading, writing, math, social, and science skills.
In addition to the great Little Free Pantry work students
did, they also continued to practice their multiplication. They continued to
practice a variety of strategies and focus on the ones that work best for
them. Ask your child to model their favourite strategy to solve problems, such as 3 x 5 =, 4 x 2 =, or 5 x 4 =.
With the beautiful spring weather we have been having,
students learned compound games to play outside. The games included Four
Square, Line Tag, HORSE, and Got It. Ask your child which game was their favourite! They also played inside the gym and worked
on their tennis skills. Students practiced serving, hitting, aiming, and then
even played doubles games. Also, students had an introduction to the Movement
with a Message Residency. This program introduction focused on "compassion" and "creating a vibe". Ask your child how to "create a vibe". This is a very exciting experience that students are
looking forward to starting this coming week.
Students also participated in a STEM Challenge where they worked with their buddy class to use Lego to build a boat. Ask your child which challenges they were able to complete.
Thank you
