February 4th - 8th
In writing, students continued to work on their narrative story writing. This week students focussed on writing about their story problem and attempts to solve the problem. Students then had opportunities to provide peer feedback to one another and revise their work.
In Math, students continued to work on subtraction and focussed on using a new strategy. We worked on using the open number line strategy which allows students to have more flexibility in solving when finding the difference. As well, we continued to practice basic facts in addition and subtraction by playing a game called Race to 0.

This week students completed their collages based on the images they collected that connected to education. They then compared the two countries with their own educational experience in Canada looking for similarities and differences and showcasing this through a Venn diagram. Later in the week, students worked on researching how the communities of Tunisia, Peru, India access health care.
Students reviewed putting words into alphabetical order and had a chance to explore a dictionary. As a class, we discussed what we noticed and how they might be used. In the coming weeks, we will provide students with more opportunities to use dictionaries during our reading times to support them with looking up unfamiliar words so they can make deeper connections to what they are reading.
Yesterday, students created abstract art using acrylic paint. Students painted with pallet knives or cards to apply the paint onto the paper. Ask your child to share the process and what they created.
Please check your child's backpack for a notice regarding Valentine's Day next week.
