Dec. 10 - 14

In grade three this week...

The grade three students spent a large portion of the week researching, designing, and building robots for the Beakerhead Ingenuity Challenge. The challenge was to create something for “The Year 3018” out of tape. After many opportunities to brainstorm and share ideas, as a class, students decided they wanted to build robots to take away pollution and litter in order to make the world a better place in 3018. After coming to this decision, the students then decided which areas are affected by pollution in order to determine what kind of robots they should make. They determined that air, water, land, underground, and the city would all need robots to remove pollution and litter. After this, students researched machines that have already been designed for these particular areas and then created their own independent blueprint. Then the students collaborated and came up with a group blueprint. Finally, the real fun began! The Collaborative Threes used their blueprints to build their prototypes out of tape and a few other materials from the Makerspace! This weekend, ask your child to tell you all about their robot (if they haven’t already!)

Students had a great time snowshoeing! They went twice this week and explored the field and the snowshoe course.
